Simple Tips to Help You Save on Halloween | First Volunteer Bank

At First Volunteer Bank, our team is ready to start setting up for Halloween! In the process, we want to share our money-saving tips when it comes to celebrating Halloween on a budget.

A Spook-tacular Way to Save

According to the National Retail Federation, 171 million Americans scared up an average of $82.93 per person in Halloween holiday spending in 2016. Chances are that the number won’t change this year and, if anything, will be larger. Instead of being part of the statistic who spend more on Halloween this month, why not find ways to save instead?

First, look at how you can save on costumes. Has your child told you what he or she would like to be for the trick-or-treat activities this month? Now is the time to start searching retail stores like Halloween Express, consignment sales like Sweet WeePeets and yard sales, where Halloween costumes might be at their best price!

Second, when it comes to decorations, try using as much from last year as possible. However, if that won’t work or you’re trying to add some new Halloween decorations into the mix, allow your children to be the artists. Make time for a couple craft days this month that you and your children can spend quality time making Halloween crafts that can help decorate your home for the season.

Finally, when it comes to candy, avoid buying at drugstore and specialty stores, since the candy at these stores right now will be at incredibly high prices. Instead, buy in bulk as much as possible. If you are throwing a Halloween party, have it be a ”bring your own candy” party—that way it’s not on your shoulders to supply candy for all the kids.
