Home Is Where the Heart Is - Let's Get It Pumping

While some people are making resolutions to lose weight, earn a promotion at work, or possibly start their own business, maybe 2016 should be the year you resolve to save money in order to purchase your first home!

Start Saving Today!

Do you know you want to own a home in 2016, but are not quite sure where to start when saving money for the down payment? Here are some tips to get you started!

Set a goal, and have your budget match! When do you want to be in your new home? Four months? Six months? A year? Set your goal, and make sure your budget fits perfectly when it comes to saving for the down payment. Be realistic. If you need to save $5,000 for your down payment, do not set your goal for two months if you know you cannot save $2500 a month.

Keep it separate. After you set your timeline and how much you want to save each month for your down payment, put the money in a separate account, so you will not be tempted to touch the money. Out of sight, out of mind—you do not want to be tempted to spend your down payment before you reach your goal.

Cut back to help save. Eating out five nights a week? Grabbing a cup of coffee before work every morning? Stop spending extra money where you can, and put that savings toward your down payment. A little bit can go a long way!
