Help Your Kids Earn Their Own Money This Summer | First Volunteer Bank
The team at First Volunteer Bank wants you to remember your first job growing up. Don’t just go back to the first job you had outside the home, but think about the ways you were able to earn extra money even when you were too young for a “real” job.
Remember how much fun you had earning your own money over the summer? Now, it’s time to help your own kids earn money this summer, which will help teach them valuable lessons.
The Value of a Dollar
Raise your hand if your child is spending more time right now in front of the television or smartphone than outdoors. Raise your hand if you have a child who will ask day in and day out for this, this and this but will not work or help out to get it. Well, use this summer to help your child learn the value of money and hard work.
Many people right now are trying to get in shape. You might have noticed more runners and walkers appearing in your neighborhood. These same people need to remain hydrated during their exercise routine in the heat. Therefore, see this as an opportunity to help your children set up a lemonade stand or water stand. This can help the runners stay hydrated while helping your young one earn some money! (Hint: Send an e-mail or text letting your neighbors know a lemonade stand will be out the next day! That way they can make sure to bring some dollars and quarters along with them.)
Chores are another great way to help your children earn some extra money over summer. While you might have chores that are standard and need to be done every day, give your little one extra chore opportunities so that he or she can earn spending money. After the chore is complete, give your child payment. That way, he or she will associate the chore with money and make less of a fuss about it next time—once a job is done, money is earned!
