Get Your Financial Calendars Ready! | First Volunteer Bank

Was one of your goals for 2019 to get better about managing your personal finances? If so, one of the best ways to start is by making sure you are aware of important dates throughout the year that have an impact on your finances.

So, get out your calendars, because the team at First Volunteer Bank wants to help you fill-in-the-blanks on important financial dates so you can keep your personal finances on the right track for the year!

If you want to stay on top of important deadlines, you need to go ahead and prepare now by marking your calendars. Start with:

April 15—Tax Day

Can you believe we are already talking about taxes? Didn’t we just file taxes for 2017 yesterday? While it might seem like we did, a new tax season is right around the corner!

Therefore, mark your calendar for Monday, April 15, which is the deadline to file your tax return and pay any necessary taxes.

Of course, if you want to, you could always get a jumpstart on tax season by filing early! That way you wouldn’t have to worry about the April 15 deadline.

If you plan on filing an extension on filing taxes, you also want to mark October 15 on your calendar, which is when your new deadline will be to file your return. And remember, even if you file for an extension, you have to pay any taxes by the original deadline.

June 30—Student Loan Application Deadline

Do you have a senior in high school currently residing in your house? Does he or she plan on going to college, but need of financial aid to do so? Then, you are going to want to mark this date on your calendar in red marker!

June 30 is the absolute last day to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, which is also known as the FAFSA.

If you forget to file this form, then your child will be unable to access federal student loans and grants. Therefore, don’t let this date pass you by unannounced—make a note of it now!

October through December—Open Enrollment

There’s not a specific date on this to-do item, but it’s important nonetheless. Whether you have insurance through your employer or purchase it yourself through the marketplace, you’ll need to sign up for 2020 benefits in late 2019.

Start preparing for this deadline early—consider whether you’ve had any changes in your life (new baby, change in job, change in marital status) that may require a change in your insurance coverage. Along with health insurance, you’ll also want to consider things such as life insurance and short- and long-term disability.

Now that you have your important financial dates marked, it’s time to make sure you have your bank accounts ready. Contact the First Volunteer Bank team today to learn how to get started!
